Major John Angwin USA Ret

Veteran Patriot Friend

The WMMOA Board regretfully announces the untimely death of longtime member Major John Angwin, US Army (Retired) on Friday, 23 October. John was commissioned through the University of Montana ROTC program, a WMMOA member for more than 30 years and was a tireless supporter of Veteran causes in the Missoula area. He served as WMMOA President several times and was our Treasurer for many years. John was a font of knowledge when working on the Doubletree meeting and banquet contracts. He would do a lot of the behind the scenes duties such as checking our PO Box and working with our bank a regular basis. John’s community service went well beyond WMMOA. He was the President of American Legion Post 27 and continually worked to manage the bingo site at the Western Montana Fair, the major fundraiser. He was the driving force behind Post 27’s expanded monthly member breakfasts and a strong supporter of Veterans Programs in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History. He was an active member of the Missoula Job Service’s Veterans Support Network, hosting monthly meetings at Post 27 and helping coordinate the annual Veterans Appreciation Bar-B-Que on Memorial Day. We remember John’s sense of humor, quick laugh and dedication to Veterans’ issues. He will be greatly missed. John was laid to rest beside his parents on November 10th with full military honors and his family and many friends present.  God Speed MAJ Angwin!
